HR, Benefits & business
Who were you before the society told you who you should be? Most of us struggle to find our personal identity. We are a fusion of all these things in humanity that sometimes, we are no longer sure who we really are. But, you should not feel sad and scared about it. It is part of the stages of life we must go through before we fulfill our purpose.
The Constant Search for Validation
If we are going to think deeply about it, we were born helpless. We did not know anything, and we just learned how to crawl, then walk and talk. We depend on our parents and everyone around us to teach us something; it is the first stage. We adapt what we can from society until we become with it. It is also when the identity crisis come to play.
We do what others do because that is how we were taught; it is how we are shaped. In return, we seek for validation from others; mainly because we do things for others more than we do things for ourselves.
What Makes You Different
Now that society has already defined us, how do we become different from others? It is undeniable that we are all alike and dissimilar at the same time. But, there is still this distinction that will set you apart from others. The second stage is time for experiment and self-discovery. It is the time where we try things between what we want to do and what we need to do.
After the trial and error in the second stage, we must now focus on the things we do best. You already know what works for you and what does not. It is about time to push yourself to your full potential; let go of the things that no longer serve growth. It is the stage of acceptance where we do not insist on the things that do not help us fulfill our purpose.
Life can be pretty exhausting, and we may feel it even before we get old. In this stage, we try to leave a legacy that will leave on. It can be taking care of your own family and giving life advice to your grandchildren. After years of living and experiencing life through its ups and downs, we would have understood it better in the fourth stage.
We must not lose ourselves and must always be present. However, it is not wrong to prepare for the future, too. As long as you can protect yourself, you can become your greatest.
